10th edition of Técnico’s Shaping the Future welcomes new faculty and researchers

Over the past decade, the Shaping the Future programme has successfully helped new professionals adapt to the culture of Técnico and develop their careers.

The 10th edition of the Shaping the Future programme took place in Caparide from June 30 to July 2, bringing together 37 professors and researchers.

The Shaping the Future programme continues to provide training and facilitate the adaptation of new teachers and researchers at the Instituto Superior Técnico, enhancing their professional and academic performance and seeking to convey the institution's values.

There were 14 researchers at the beginning or in the progression of their careers at the Technological and Nuclear Campus who participated in this initiative, which reinforces Técnico's commitment to innovation, talent, and cutting-edge science.

Over two and a half days, the schedule addressed, among other topics:

  • academic leadership and career management;
  • positive impact of a sabbatical period;
  • balance between teaching and research components;
  • international best practices and funding acquisition strategies;
  • instrumentalizing artificial intelligence in favor of teaching.

Later, the joint lunch was another opportunity to meet new colleagues and exchange experiences.

Luís Lemos Alves recalled that, alongside the annual workshop, Shaping the Future also includes a funding component, "to help teachers and researchers at the start of their experimental period," and another component for mentoring, with "each of them having a designated mentor who accompanies and helps them in their career development."
