Doctorates
Técnico's doctoral programs are offered in association with national and international universities, and there are cases in which a double degree is awarded. Students actively participate in national and international research projects, are encouraged to patent the innovative results of their research and encouraged to create an entrepreneurial spirit.
DECN is currently coordinating the PhD scholarship funded by the Portuguese Science and Technology Foundation (FCT):
Materials Chemistry (ChemMat): with emphasis on optic electric and magnetic functionalities. It aims at providing advanced education and training in Chemistry including on advanced preparative tools, with a deep knowledge of electrical optical and magnetic properties of materials in order to address the most recent challenges in the development of advanced materials with emphasis on nanostructured and multifunctional materials.
Integrated in the PhD Program in Chemistry at Chemical Engineering Department (DEQ/IST), since 2015. More information.
DECN also collaborates in the doctoral program offered by the Physics Department (DF/IST), entitled:
Technological Physical Engineering (PDEFT): covers some areas of expertise of its professors and researchers, in close connection with the research units associated with the Physics Department, namely:
- Centre for Astrophysics and Gravitation (CENTRA)
- Centre of Physics and Engineering of Advanced Materials (CeFEMA)
- Centre for Theoretical Particle Physics (CFTP)
- Centre for Nuclear Sciences and Technologies (C2TN)
- INESC Microsystems and Nanotechnologies (INESC-MN)
- Instituto de Plasmas e Fusão Nuclear (IPFN)
- Laboratory of Instrumentation and Experimental Particle Physics (LIP)
The main areas of the PDEFT are:
- Astrophysics and Gravitation;
- Plasmas Physics, Nuclear Fusion, Photonics and Intense Lasers;
- Physics of Condensed Matter, Nanotechnology and Solid State Physics;
- Particle Physics and Nuclear Physics.
Other areas of research within the Department of Physics (e.g. Renewable Energies) are also covered by the PhD Program.
The PhD Program in Physics Engineering together with the PhD Program in Physics integrate the 3rd study cycle of higher education courses resulting from the Bologna Agreement. They complement the undergraduate training the 1st and 2nd cycles (Bachelor and Master) in Physics Engineering.
