Salvatore Di Maria, DECN's Auxiliary Researcher
New researchers in 2025.

Salvatore Di Maria is the latest researcher to join the Department of Nuclear Engineering and Sciences (DECN) at Instituto Superior Técnico.
His career has been marked by his dedication to the dosimetry of ionizing radiation, with a special focus on medical physics applications and, in particular, on radiotherapy and mammography, contributing significantly to an early diagnosis of cancer.
In radiotherapy, Salvatore's research work focuses on estimating the radiation dose in physical and computational phantoms, with the aim of maximizing the dose given to tumor volume, while minimizing damage to healthy organs and preserving their integrity. Currently, he is dedicated to the development of dosimetry for innovative techniques, such as targeted radionuclide therapy, in which radiation is directed to tumor cells.
As for his future goals, Salvatore says: "With my work I aim to improve dose estimation to increase the effectiveness of treatments and contribute to a better quality of life for patients."
"I started at Técnico with postdoctoral fellowships in European projects and, since then, I feel that I have earned my place at CTN. Seeing the work I develop in the area of dosimetry, in collaboration with colleagues and master's and doctoral students, being recognized and gaining visibility, fulfills me as a researcher".
We wish Salvatore very success in this new stage!
