The area of Chemical and Radiopharmaceutical Sciences is structured in:

Physical-Chemistry of the Solid State and f-Elements

Scientific activities in this field include fundamental and applied research in different types of materials, both synthesized and natural, including compounds with f elements, and the study of their physical, multifunctional, electrical and magnetic properties with possible applications in the fields of electronics and optoelectronics, health, catalysis and energy. This research is adequately done through access to a wide range of complementary techniques of synthesis and characterization, allowing to face the current challenges of the science of advanced materials and contribute to the establishment of correlations between the crystalline structure and its physical properties.

The training offer is carried out within the framework of the Doctoral Program in Materials Chemistry.

Nuclear Geosciences

The field "Nuclear Geosciences" is dedicated to the development and application of nuclear and related methods for elemental and isotopic analysis and absolute dating methods to solve geological, environmental, hydrological and cultural heritage issues. Research is innovation driven through access to various sample preparation laboratories and complementary techniques for a detailed characterization of materials of diverse nature. The activities cover the domains of geochemistry, biogeochemistry, mineralogy, oceanography and hydrology, enabling mechanistic approaches to geological and environmental processes. It is also a priority of this sub-area to promote national and international networks focused on education.

The training offer is based on training at the PhD level and the offer of the course the Course on Nuclear Techniques for the Appreciation of Cultural Heritage.

Radiopharmaceutical Sciences

Radiopharmaceutical Sciences aim at the preclinical design and evaluation of radioactive probes for Molecular Imaging through PET or SPECT and for Radionuclide Directed Therapies, in line with societal priorities in the area of​​Life Sciences and Health. It is a multidisciplinary field that involves the contribution of Chemistry, Radiochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences and Biology. This area of ​​research presents a valuable translational potential and is relevant for the diagnosis and treatment of oncological, cardiovascular or neurodegenerative pathologies, contributing to the implementation of personalized molecular medicine. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to develop innovative radiopharmaceuticals targeted at specific targets based on a broad range of therapeutic or imaging radionuclides, with the ability to visualize or influence molecular and biological pathways associated with disease.

Radiochemistry discipline is offered under the Master's Degree in Radiation Protection and Safety.

Depending on the requests, the Radiopharmaceutical Preparation and Quality Control Course may be offered.
